Background
Six years after the successful album Brothers in Arms Dire Straits took their last studio album out. It's an album that goes back more from the sound back to the roots, but also strongly influence the Mark Knopfler reflects that at the time was already active as a solo artist. So the title Iron Hand or How Long for example, are oriented to vote and without long instrumental passages, similar to pop music. Nevertheless, the album contains later classics such as Calling Elvis Heavy Fuel or that were performed live during the subsequent tour. As a synthesis of the two styles of the album described the song On Every Street can be seen: It starts with a strong vocals Mark Knopfler, from the half but come the instrumental skills of the band to the forefront.
Two years later appeared as a result of the last major world tour of Dire Straits live album On the Night. Then it was quiet around the band, an official resolution, however, never took place.
