On Fire is the second studio album of the American dream pop trio Galaxie 500 was published in 1989 on Rough Trade after it was recorded in the studio Noise NY in New York City.

Producer Marc Kramer plays on the track " Is not it a Pity " organ, the musicians Ralph Carney on " Decomposing Trees" tenor saxophone.

Reception

Since the album's release, the reception of the album was generally positive. So it was classified on the list of the 100 best albums of the 80s by Pitchfork ranked # 16. The online music magazine graded the album with rare top grade 10.0/10.0. Mark Richardson wrote on the occasion of this award in a review of 30 March 2010:

" It may well sound monotonous, but the rigid focus of On Fire is a strength of the album. It feels intruding on, the rock album as an ambient album and it is the definitive Slowcore statement. "

Reissues

The album was released in 1997 by Rykodisc again. It was remastered in 1996 and included as a bonus track, the Red Crayola - Cover Victory Garden, the New Order Cover Ceremony and our own song Cold Night. As an added bonus also the music video for " When Will You Come Home " (1988, directed by Sergio Hudor ) was added.

2010, the album was re-released again. It contained, in addition to the bonus tracks from the 1997 Peel Sessions the band on a separate CD.
