Onancock, Virginia

Onancock ( Onancock also, VA ) is a city in the U.S. state of Virginia with 1525 inhabitants ( 2000). The city is located in the rural Accomack County on the Chesapeake Bay and has a small port.

In 1680 the city was founded as a port Scarborough. The current place name is of Indian origin and means as much as foggy place.

At the head of the city council is elected mayor, the City Council is followed. The decisions of the City Council are executed by the Town Manager.
