Onans

Onan is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Onan is located on 363 m, 7 km north-northeast of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs and about 14 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is in the valley of Ruisseau d' Onan in the hills north of Doubstals, at the eastern foot of Mont de Pierre trouée.

The area of ​​14:21 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills north of Doubstals. The area is crossed from north to south of the valley of the Ruisseau d' Onan. South of the village trickles the stream. Is flanked this valley in the west by the ridge of the Mont de Pierre trouée ( 469 m). Next to the southwest of the community over the basin floor of Geney reaches to the Mont du Bois des Roches ( 463 m) and Mont de Bellevoie ( 459 m). East of Onan extends the community area on the plateaus of the Bois de la Craie, Bois des Tronchots, La Broche and Les Chauselles. Here the highest elevation of Onan is achieved with 481 m. The whole area is a loose structure of arable and meadow land and forest. With the exception of the Ruisseau d' Onan there is no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground of the Causse.

Neighboring communities of Onan are Marvelise and Gémonval in the north, Arcey, Montenois and Faimbe in the east, and Médière Étrappe in the south and Geney and Courchaton in the West.

History

A church to Onan mentioned in documents in 1199. In the Middle Ages Onan belonged to the rule Granges, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Onan is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Population

With 378 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Onan is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 437 people were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Onan was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Longevelle -sur -Doubs after Crevans. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 15 km. Further road links exist with Geney and Arcey.
