Onayena Constituency

Onayena is a village of the same name and constituency in the Oshikoto Region, northern Namibia with a county population of 15,684 inhabitants ( 2001). The majority of the population in the constituency Onayena one of the Oshivambo and forms a cultural and economic union with the nearby towns Olukonda, seat of the kings of the Ondonga and Oniipa, seat of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia. Max Nekongo ( SWAPO ) was confirmed in the regional elections in 2010 with an overwhelming majority of regional councilor.

Geography

The predominantly rural constituency belongs to the low- gradient nordnamibischen Oshana system, a network of shallow running in a north-south direction gutters and valleys. The county is bordered on the east by the constituency Onyaanya, to the south and to the west by the Omuntele constituencies Okankolo and Olukonda. In the north Onayena adjacent to the members of the Ohangwena Region Constituency Eenhana.

Onayena is the relatively largest settlement of the district; other settlements and villages are Elombe, Esheshete, Omandongo, Onakandi, Onakiidhi, Onathinge and Oniihwa.

Economy and Transport

National Road B1 and railway Tsumeb Oshikango traverse the constituency in East-West direction, the nearest stations are in Omuthiya and Ondangwa. The settlement Onayena lies about twenty kilometers east of the town of Ondangwa, just three kilometers north of B1 to a moderately -maintained gravel road (D Street).

The governing economic activities in Onayena are agriculture and livestock. Onayena has a health center; There are also scattered retail shops for through traffic especially along the B1.
