Ondavská Highlands

Ondavská Highlands ( German about " mountain Ondauer land") is a named after the river Ondava mountain range in eastern Slovakia.

Location and territory

The Ondavská Highlands extends from the district Bardejov over the districts Svidník and Stropkov up in the northern parts of the districts Humenné and Vranov nad Topľou. It is part of the Low Beskids ( Nizke Beskydy ), and thus the Outer Eastern Carpathians.

The boundaries of the mountains

  • In the north from the Polish border and from the mountain massif Busov,
  • To the east by mountains Laborecká Highlands,
  • Predhorie the south by the foothills Beskydské,
  • In the west of the mountains and highlands Ľubovnianska Čergov.

Character

The mountain is characterized by gentle, mostly forested (where deciduous forest dominated ) ridge, which mainly draw from the main ridge of the Carpathian mountains in a southerly direction, forming long valleys (eg the rivers Topľa and Ondava ).

The highest elevations are the Stebnicka Magura (900 m), Javorina ( 881 m) Smilniansky vrch (750 m), Filipovský vrch (705 m), Kačalová ( 676 m) and Čierna hora ( 667 m).

Attractions

Economic and tourist center of the region is Bardejov with its well-preserved medieval center. Not far away are the spa town of Bardejov Spa and the ruins Zborov. In the south of the mountains located to the reservoir VeLka Domaša an important recreational area.
