One in a Million (1936 film)

Action

Tad Spencer is stranded with his show troupe in the Swiss Alps, after the Grand Hotel, where they occur, is burned. Tad observed the young Greta Mueller, ice skating and is convinced that they can have success with an ice ballet. The American reporter Bob Harris examines the hotel fire for his report. According to rumors, the fire should have been laid to kill a European minister. At the Olympic Games wins Greta. She refuses to go with Spencer to New York to become a professional there. Spencer blackmails so, the Olympic committee to talk about her appearance in St. Moritz. Greta's father gives the medals themselves to the committee back when he learns of the presence of his daughter. With Spencer Bob tries to explain to the secretary of the Committee the situation. The Secretary Sir Fredrick Brooks turns out to be the former suspects, who has traveled incognito as Ratoffsky the Swiss Alps.

As Greta has received no money for her appearance in St. Moritz and Spencer has all spending, Brooks, Greta sees Olympic status as an amateur for proven. Now the troops with Greta travels as a new star to New York to perform there in Madison Square Garden.

Background

The Norwegian figure skater Sonja Henie decided after the end of their unprecedented winning streak with three Olympic victories, ten World Cup titles and six European Championship titles in mid 1936 for a career in film. After hard negotiations on terms they eventually signed with 20th Century Fox for a fee of U.S. $ 100,000 and star billing, conditions that no other Neuschauspieler had been granted yet.
