One Little Indian Records

One Little Indian Records is a London based independent record label that was founded in 1985 by Derek and Sue Birkett and Tim Kelly.

History of establishment

Derek Birkett and Kelly had previously been band members at Flux of Pink Indians and also had some experience with driving Labels collected after they had their first EP yet published in Crass Records, in 1981 they founded Spiderleg Records. There appeared not only their own records, but also by punk bands such as Subhumans and Amebix.

Success

First sales successes had One Little Indian in 1987 with Björk's former band, The Sugarcubes, also with The Shamen, Skunk Anansie, Kitchens of Distinction, Chumbawamba and others. The big success came with Björk's solo albums.

When the British record label Rough Trade Records was in financial distress, Derek Birkett bought their master tapes.
