One57

One57 (formerly Carnegie 57 ) is the name of a skyscraper that is currently under construction at the address 157 West 57th Street in New York City. Since September 2012, the building has reached its final height of 306 m.

Description

In December 2008, the construction project has already been presented under the name of his address 157 West 57th Street to the public. Official data, the result is the 306 m high building to be completed at the beginning of the year 2014. In announcing the construction project initially a height of 290 m was specified, but based off of a different design, which was later discarded. The site is located north of Midtown Manhattan on 57th Street. The building will include 75 floors and can accommodate residential and hotel facilities. As an investor, the investment company Aabar Investments of Abu Dhabi has been introduced, which financed three-quarters of the skyscraper. Additional owner and investor is the Extell Development Corporation of New York. When completed, the skyscraper the tallest mixed-use New York City and will be the tallest reinforced concrete building in the city. By reaching its final height in September 2012, it became the five tallest buildings in New York City to the Empire State Building ( 381 m), the Bank of America Tower (366 m), the Chrysler Building (319 m ) and the New York Times Tower (319 m). In the meantime, however, it was overtaken by the 541 -meter-high One World Trade Center, which it has since ranked sixth in the highest building in New York. The construction costs amount to around 1.3 billion U.S. dollars. The building is equipped according to the development company Extell Development Corporation on the highest located in New York City penthouse. For this, a price of 50 million U.S. dollars is given.

Not far from the construction site are already other high-rise buildings such as the CitySpire Center and Carnegie Hall Tower, however, are lower than One57. A little north of the site is the Central Park.

The president of the Extell Development Corporation, Gary Barnett, announced in May 2010 that the project to build the name of Carnegie 57 is due to its proximity to Carnegie Hall, received. In May 2011, however, the name of the building was changed to One57.

Construction site

An older building was demolished to make way for One57 on the site as early as 2008. In the spring of 2009, the building site was prepared. In December 2009 marked the beginning of site preparation and foundation work with the foundation. In September 2010, the building reached street level and the work on the foundations were completed. The end of September 2010, the first solid construction crane was erected on the site. Already in early 2011 the site had more than 10 above-ground floors. In November 2011, was started on the lower floors with the paneling of the wall with the window panes. Meanwhile, the shell of the skyscraper had grown to more than 30 stories. In January 2012, was started on the lower floors with the glass cladding of the facade. On 1 March 2012, the 50th floor was reached. The building reached in September 2012 as planned its final height which the topping -out ceremony was celebrated. Meanwhile, the work on the facade and the interior were continued. The building is scheduled to open in early 2014.

Damage after Hurricane Sandy 2012

During Hurricane Sandy on 29 October 2012, the construction crane on the building was heavily damaged. Due to the strong winds it came to bending of the crane arm. At injured it did not come in the incident. On the following Monday, November 5, the crane was secured and the adjacent residents and businesses were able to return to their homes and businesses. In response to the collapse of the crane a class action by dentists in the area was filed because they had to leave their offices by the incident and subsequently suffered loss of income.

In May 2013 Extell announced a new crane. The plans of the New York City Department of Buildings include a mandatory evacuation of the neighboring Alwyn Court and the Briarcliff apartment building, while the new crane is lifted high. The residents of these buildings receive compensation of up to $ 1,500.
