Onelio Jorge Cardoso

Onelio Jorge Cardoso ( born May 11, 1914 in Sagua de Calabazar, Cuba, † 29 May 1986 as Havana ) was a Cuban writer and journalist.

Life

Cardoso studied on the second educational literature in Santa Clara, but did not for lack of money does not lead to the end of the study. In 1936, he won his first literary prize. He worked as a farm school teachers, street vendors, agents for drugs and twelve years as a lyricist for Radio and Television in Cuba.

In 1945 he was awarded a literary prize for his novel "The Koehler " (Los carboneros ). 1948 moved to Havana Cardoso. He was chief editor of a film magazine. In 1952 he was awarded the National Peace Prize for his short story " Old Iron " ( Hierro Viejo).

1961-1966 Cardoso sat on the advisory board for the literature UNEAC ( Cuban Writers and Artists Association ). He wrote numerous articles for Cuban magazines and worked on films.

In 1976 he was cultural attaché at the Cuban Embassy in Peru and then President of the literature section of the UNEAC.

Reception

Outstanding are his achievements as a narrator. His stories are about ordinary people and their problems. With its very own narrative style, reminiscent only in the structural design of Hemingway, he manages philosophical transcendence from everyday situations to work out. Tales of Cardoso have been translated into 12 languages.
