Onex is a municipality in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland. The inhabitants are called Onésiens.

Geography

Onex is located south of the Rhone river and north of the Aire, about 5 km southwest of the center of Geneva. The neighboring communities are south of Plan-les- Ouates, west Confignon and Bernex, north and southeast Vernier Lancy. Onex is connected by tram No. 14 and several bus services to the public transport network of Geneva.

The city has 18'074 inhabitants, of whom 36% are foreigners.

Between 1900 and 2000, the population of Onex has increased by more than 60-fold, ie from 279 (on the 40th rank out of 45 Geneva municipalities ) to 17'328 inhabitants ( the sixth largest municipality of Geneva). Around 80 % of residents are of French mother tongue, followed by 4.7% of Italian mother tongue.
