General

The Onkaparinga River flows in a steep sided valley into the National Park and passes it into an impressive gorge with up to 50 m high cliffs and rocks formed from water basin. After he has subsequently flowed through the westerly Onkaparinga River Recreation Park, it flows into the sea.

Since time immemorial, this area has a deep cultural and religious significance for members of the Aboriginal tribe of the Kaurna.

Nature

Among the plant species dominate different eucalyptus species. In addition, casuarinas and gold acacia occur. Among other things, 27 different species of orchid have been counted. In winter and spring the bushland of the national park is decorated with colorful wildflowers.

Tourism

In the park there are several hiking trails of varying length and difficulty, which opens up some parts of the park. Picnic areas are also available. In addition, there is the possibility to navigate the river by boat and to fish.
