Onslow County, North Carolina

Onslow County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jacksonville, which was named after the seventh President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, named.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern North Carolina, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of ​​2353 square kilometers, of which 367 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jones County, Carteret County, Pender County and Duplin County.

Onslow County is divided into five townships: Jacksonville, Richlands, Sneads Ferry, Swansboro and White Oak.

History

Onslow County was formed in 1734 from parts of the defunct Bath County. It was named after Arthur Onslow, a spokesman for the British House of Commons from 1728 to 1761.
