ONUCA and ONUSAL#ONUSAL and the Salvadoran peace process

The Misión de Naciones Unidas en las Observación de El Salvador ( German: Observer Mission of the United Nations in El Salvador, ONUSAL ) based on UN Resolution 693 of 20 May 1991, was used from July 1991 to April 1995 in El Salvador.

The aim of the UN mandate was to monitor the implementation of the Convention, the Government of El Salvador and the FMLN rebel group that ended a 12- year civil war.

Was out of use from the headquarters in San Salvador. Was Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of Mission from July 1991 to March 1993 Iqbal Riza from Pakistan, from April 1993 to March 1994 Augusto Ramirez Ocampo from Colombia and from April 1994 to September 1995 Enrique ter Horst from Venezuela, who from September through Ricardo Virgil was detached from Peru, since he himself for the MINUSAL mission took over this function from September 1995. Chief Military Observer was the Spanish Brigadier General Victor Suanzes Pardo. For the police official component was from March 1992 to April 1994 General Homero Vaz Bresque from Uruguay and from May 1994 to March 1995 Comisario Principal Alfredo Carballo from Spain. During the mission came three civilian police observers and two other civilian employees of ONUSAL killed.
