Onufriivka

Onufrijiwka (Ukrainian Онуфріївка; Russian Онуфриевка / Onufrijewka ) is an urban-type settlement in the northern Ukrainian Oblast Kirovohrad with 3,900 inhabitants ( 2013).

Geography

Onufrijiwka is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons and is located 128 km northeast of the Oblastzentrum Kirovohrad, 47 km north-east of the city Olexandrija, 26 km south of Kremenchug, 14 km south from Dneprufer at Kamjani Potoky.

History

The settlement was in the early 17th century by a Zaporozhian Cossacks name Onufrijenkom (Ukrainian Онуфрієнком ) founded, whose name was given to the village. In 1752, the area now Rajons part of Slawenoserbien was. 1968 Onufrijiwka received the status of an urban-type settlement.

Onufrijiwka is the administrative seat of Rajon Onufrijiwka founded in 1923. This has an area of 889 km ² and 21,500 inhabitants, and is bordered to the north by the Poltava Oblast and to the west by the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. The population density is 25 inhabitants per km ².
