Vandasee with Onyx

The Onyx River is the longest river on the Antarctic continent. He is a 30 km long meltwater river that is fed by the Wright Lower Glacier. It flows in a westerly direction, the Wright Valley, one of the Antarctic Dry Valleys ( Dry Valleys ) in Victoria Land, and empties into the Vandasee.

He has several tributaries and flows only during the late Antarctic summer ( February, March ); during the rest of the course of the river is visible as a mere Ice Band. The water level is subject to change in the years to substantial fluctuations in some years the river does not reach the Vandasee.

In the Onyx River live not fish but only animal and plant microorganisms.
