Oona King, Baroness King of Bow

Oona Tamsyn King, Baroness King of Bow, of Bow in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets ( born October 22, 1967 in Sheffield ) is a British politician of the Labour Party, which between 1997 and 2005 members of the House of Commons was, and since 2011 as Life Peeress member of the House of Lords.

Professional activities and member of Parliament,

After visiting the Haverstock School and studying at the University of York, from which she graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts ( BA), Oona King was 1990-1991 Research assistant at the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament and subsequent to 1993, political assistant of MEP Glyn Ford During this time she was part of the campaign team of John Smith in the general election on 9 April 1992 and was between 1993 and 1994 freelance speechwriter before it from 1994 to 1995 as a political assistant of MEP Glenys Kinnock worked. In the general election on 1 May 1997 Oona King was first elected as a candidate of the Labour Party MPs in the House of Commons and represented there until their defeat in the elections on 5 May 2005 the constituency of Bethnal Green and Bow. During her eight-year parliament membership she was between 1997 and 2001 first as a member of the House Committee on International Development and then from 2001 to 2005 member of the House Committee on Transport, Local Government and the Regions and at the same time a member of the local sub-committee on urban affairs. Most recently she performed from 2003 to 2005 as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Minister Patricia Hewitt and at the same time between 2003 and 2005 by Stephen Timms, the then Financial Secretary of the Treasury (Treasury).

During her Parliament membership it was also between 1997 and 2005 Vice - chairman of the bipartisan Parliamentary Group on Bangladesh and the temporary chairman of the bipartisan Parliamentary Group on Rwanda, the Great Lakes, as well as for the prevention of genocide in Rwanda. In addition, she served as chairman of the Labour Party campaign for electoral reform and as Vice - Chairman of the Group of the House of Representatives of the Labour Party from London. Between 2000 and 2002 she was also vice - chairman of the British Council and also temporarily Treasurer of the bipartisan parliamentary group Friends of Islam House of Commons.

After their defeat and their departure from the House of Oona King worked from 2007 to 2009 at 10 Downing Street as a Senior Adviser to Prime Minister Gordon Brown and thereafter since 2009 Diversity Manager at the television station Channel 4 also involved with Amnesty International, the Jewish Cncl for Racial Democracy, in One World Action, 1990 in Trust, the Fabian Society, the Campaign for Electoral Reform in Britain and in Europe.

In early September 2010 she explained that she wanted to apply for Labour for the office of Mayor of London at the mayoral elections on May 3, 2012. In the intra-party presidential nomination on September 24, 2012, she clearly was subject, however, the former mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, which accounted for 68.8 percent derDelegiertenstimmen.

By Letters Patent dated 26 January 2011 have been collected in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to the peerage Oona King as Life Peeress with the title Baroness King of Bow, of Bow. Shortly thereafter, took place on January 31, 2011 their introduction ( Introduction) as a member of the House of Lords. In the upper house it belongs to the Group of the Labour Party.
