Oost-Souburg

Oost- Souburg is a place between Middelburg and Vlissingen in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Oost- Souburg, from 1814 to 1834 an independent municipality in 1834 with West Souburg from which it is separated by the Kanaal door Walcheren, joined to the municipality of Oost -en West - Souburg, which was incorporated in 1966 to Flushing.

History

The former village name Sutburgh refers to the Southern Wall area on the island of Walcheren in the Carolingian period. Their location in the 9th century, is now recognized as a central large circular open space in the village. The ring wall was rebuilt again in the eighties of the 20th century. During the Reformation, the former sanctuary was from the 15th century severely damaged in 1572 and rebuilt in 1605.
