Oostrum

Oostrum ( Frisian: Eastrum ) is a village in the municipality Dongeradeel in the Dutch province of Friesland. It is located a few kilometers east of Dokkum and has 240 inhabitants (2008 ).

History

Oostrum was built on a mound on which a medieval church was later built. The mound is however already partially removed. In this mound in 2006 remains of settlements of the Funnel Beaker culture were found on February 6. Archaeological investigations revealed that the remains of the settlement must be from the time 3400-2840 BC.

The radicals are hundreds of pottery, worn flints, stone tools and waste materials that are produced during the grinding of flints. This suggests that the area was inhabited by Oostrum early.

By 1968 there were Oostrum in a brick factory.
