Opatovice nad Labem

Opatovice nad Labem ( German: Opatowitz ) is a municipality with 2241 inhabitants in Okres Pardubice in the Czech Republic.

Geography

Opatovice is located in the north of Pardubice district on the right bank of the Elbe.

History

The first written mention Opatovice 1073 in connection with the founding of the monastery Opatowitz, the village belonged to the destruction of monasteries by the Hussites in 1421. Around the middle of the 14th century came Opatovice with the former monastery of George of Podiebrad, from which it in 1472, his son Henry the Elder. inherited.

End of the 14th century acquired Opatowice Wilhelm II of Pernštejna, which already belonged to the dominion of Pardubice. He built the Opatovicky channel ( Opatovický kanál ) with a length of 32.7 km. Through him, the adjacent ponds were fed, where fish farming was operated.
