Opel Kadett C

Opel Kadett Sedan (1973-1977)

The Opel Kadett C was a compact car of Adam Opel AG and was produced from August 1973 to July 1979 at about 1.6 million units. The car with a longitudinally mounted front engine and rear-wheel drive took over the technology of its predecessor Kadett B.

The sporty version Kadett GT / E was put on the market mid-1975, one year before his rival VW Golf GTI.

In August 1979 Opel presented the successor Kadett D. This was a completely new design with a transverse engine and front wheel drive.

Body

The Kadett C was offered in five body styles:

  • Saloon, the only type with four doors
  • Coupe, two-door (also available as a sporty GT / E version is not only in the traditional Opel -color White / Yellow )
  • City, a three-door hatchback version ( from May 1975 )
  • Combi - called in Opel traditionally Caravan
  • Aero - a conversion based on the two-door sedan in an open vehicle through the Baur body and vehicle from Stuttgart ( from spring 1976)

The latter variant, a convertible sedan with a targa roof and stowable plastic rear window was initially offered in the spring of 1976 with the 1.2 - liter engine with 44 kW.

From the autumn of 1977 there was also the 1.6 - liter version with 55 kW. The car had standard 175/70er-Reifen and the elaborate SR- equipped with four-spoke steering wheel, tachometer, clock and auxiliary instruments. The end of 1977 the prices of the "Aero" were 14500-15335 DM and approximately $ 5000 over the price of the basic sedan. The car was therefore sold only 1,224 times and taken in the spring of 1978 out of the program. Only with the Kadett E, there were in 1987 again a convertible from Opel.

Facelift

In August 1977, a facelift took place, which is to recognize the integrated into the fenders next to the headlights turn signals. Until then, the front turn signals were mounted below the bumper. This is only partly true for the standard version, which was produced until mid-1978 with turn signals below.

In addition, the internal name of " C1 " to " C2" changed. On request, there was the Kadett C with three-speed automatic transmission.
