Opel Rekord (1977-1982)

The Opel Rekord E is a passenger car of the upper middle class of the Adam Opel AG, which was introduced in August 1977 as a successor to the Opel Rekord D. Like its predecessors was the type as station wagons (with Opel traditional "Caravan" called ) available.

Until the facelift in October 1982 refers to the model as E1, then it was called E2. The platform of the Opel Rekord E was also used in the models Commodore, Senator A and Monza A.

Idea

The Adam Opel AG presented the newly developed record at the IAA 1977. He took some of the technology of its predecessor. The Rekord E was a typical automotive use with unaufregender, but reliable technology. Home-style performance, proper roadholding and a somewhat less satisfactory suspension comfort were next to his pleasant appearance characteristic of this series.

The large series motors ( Opel CIH ) of the E1 model, there was a 1.7 N ( 60 PS), 1.9 N (75 PS, regular gasoline ), and three 2.0-liter versions ( 2.0 N ( 66 kW / 90 PS), 2.0 S ( premium gasoline, 100 hp) and 2.0 E ( injection, 110 hp) and a 2.1 -liter diesel variant (60 hp), which after only one year by an enlarged 2.3 -liter version with 65 PS was replaced. in the export there was, for example, in Italy for tax purposes, a 2.0-liter diesel version with 58 hp, which was offered in Germany only in Ascona B.

The small engines were ordered but relatively rare in this vehicle class, a displacement of around two liters had been established. The diesel models with a characteristic hump on the hood were asked more in Italy, the Benelux countries and France.

Equipment variants

There were three trim levels:

  • The record (basic model ) as two - or four-door sedan and five-door three or caravan.
  • The record L than two - and four-door sedan and five-door station wagon.
  • The record Berlina than two - and four-door sedan and five-door also from August 1980 Caravan; that was the finest of furnishings.

Optionally, it was up to the use of record SR / E in April 1982, the so-called " S" package, which included some sports accessories, such as alloy wheels and a firmer suspension. For an additional charge, a level control for the rear axle was available.

The interiors were in the colors beige, red, blue and black. The window sills and dashboard upper parts were always black. When Berlina was a darker shade of red as well as the Senator / Monza used.

Facelift

In August 1981, some model refinements were carried out. All models now had a decent plastic spoiler at the bow, all limousines were rear lights with a black instead of a red plastic enclosure. The record was now called L record luxury and had a "luxury" lettering on the fenders, and redesigned wheels, exterior mirrors and integrated as an extended sedan rear bumper as Senator and Monza.

Also, the record Berlina got these innovations, plus as a sedan by the Senator or Monza wider side protection moldings and rubber strips on the bumpers. With the publication of the revised E2 in October 1982 the body and the instrument panel has been revised. Facelift

Beginning of 1983 was introduced as a new top model of the record disc. It is based on the record Berlina 2.0 -E engine. He is recognizable (similar design as in Ascona C CD) along an aluminum trim strip on the hood, side skirts and a new full -scale hubcap. The diesel program was expanded further: The 2.3 D was increased in the fall of 1983, 71 PS, 1984, added the 86 -hp turbo version, which was also available at the Senator.

The new features of the model year 1985 restricted to equipment changes.
