Open Education

Open Education refers to educational issues, to make education freely available. In a narrower sense, it is often based on the knowledge about the Internet, which is based both on free learning materials (see Open Educational Resources, Open Access) and the other hand on generally accessible learning platforms. Open Education is not the same as e-learning, but uses the same technical means.

One of the most important implementations of the Open -Education - principle is the OpenCourseWare program, which was launched in 2002 by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the now over 200 universities and organizations belong (as of May 2010).
