History

On November 5, 2007 Google founded with 33 partners the Open Handset Alliance. The founding members include software companies, handset manufacturers, network operators, chip manufacturers and marketing companies. The Android operating system is the main product of the Open Handset Alliance. It is an open source system based on Linux. The first commercially available device that is based on the work of the Open Handset Alliance, was the HTC Dream. It was approved on 18 August 2008 by the FCC. Since then, several manufacturers have devices with Android in its offer.
