Open Source Center

The Open Source Center (OSC, English public sources center ) is a the Director of National Intelligence imputed intelligence agency in the United States. She specializes in collecting and analyzing publicly available (open source) of sources.

The daily reports to the Authority on a regular basis input in the briefing of the President of the United States.

Location and Staff

The headquarters of the Authority located in Virginia, where most people sit. However, many are also directly operate on the ground in the various embassies of the United States.

In the OSC several hundred employees work (November 2011). The exact number is secret.

History

The OSC was established in the wake of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 and is mainly used for counter-terrorism and the prevention of illegal arms deals.

Since the protests after the Iranian presidential elections in 2009 social networks are strongly moved into the focus of the Authority.

In the riots in Bangkok in 2010, came, according to the deputy director of the OSCs, two-thirds of all reports from the United States Embassy in Bangkok to the government, by its authority.

The change of mood before the Arab Spring, was according to Douglas Naquin, noticed by the OSC, details of the director. It was expected, therefore, with a large-scale uprising. Only the date was not known.

By his own testimony were the reactions to the killing of Osama bin Laden in Operation Neptune 's Spear in May 2011 special attention.
