The Open University Malaysia ( OUM ) ( Mal. Universiti Terbuka Malaysia) in Kuala Lumpur is a private University in Malaysia. It was founded in 2000 from a group of several state universities, and is today a university with about 80,000 students.

History

One of the areas of the major project of the State of Malaysia Vision 2020 is to increase the educational level of broad social layers. In 1999 the Minister of Education called on the Multimedia Technology Enhancement Operations Sdn Bhd ( METEOR ), a private company eleven state universities to set up a private distance learning university. It was founded in 2000 and the trial operation started in 2001 with 750 students.

Organization

The Chancellor of the University is honorary and is occupied by a well-known personality, while the full-time management of the University is headed by the Vice-Chancellor. In addition to its main campus in Kuala Lumpur 56 study centers in various locations in Malaysia.
