Opening Cup

The locomotive Cup (Russian Кубок Локомотива; until September 2011: Opening Cup, Russian Кубок Открытия / Kubok Otkrytija ) is an ice hockey trophy of the Kontinental Hockey League ( KHL ). The trophy is played between the previous year's winner of the Gagarin Cup and last year's finalists for the season opener and is part of the regular KHL season. The Gagarin Cup winner here has home advantage.

The first issue of the then Kubok Otkrytija was disputed by the two finalists of the last Super League season. In the season 2010/11 the previous year's finalist HK MVD was Balaschicha, which merged, replaced after the season with the HK Dynamo Moscow by its successor club OHK Dynamo. After came almost the whole squad of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the plane crash near Yaroslavl killed the KHL decided together with the players' union, rename the trophy in locomotive Cup.
