Operation Catherine

Operation Catherine was the code name of a planned by the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom in spring 1940 offensive in the Baltic Sea. Strategic goal here was to disrupt or prevent the German maritime trade with the Soviet Union, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Latvia. In particular, the maritime Swedish iron ore via the Baltic Sea to Germany should be stopped.

The driving force behind the project was the at that time newly appointed First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill. Head of Planning was Fleet Admiral Lord Cork. Various political events meant that the project was not carried out.
