Operation Dawn 5

The Operation Dawn 5 (Persian Valfajr 5, in English literature mostly as Operation Dawn 5 translated), was an offensive during the First Gulf War. The aim of the offensive was the separation of the Iraqi 3rd Army Corps and 4th Army Corps near Basra. On the Iranian side only Pasdaran were used, which were advancing in the initial phase of the operation with boats to within a few kilometers of the strategic Basra - Baghdad waterway. But the Iranians lacked artillery, air support and armored vehicles, which is why they could not defeat the better-equipped Iraqis.
