Operation Sky Monitor

Operation Sky Monitor (Engl. about Skyguard ) was a military operation of NATO. It established a no-fly zone for military flights in the airspace of Bosnia - Herzegovina during the Balkan conflicts.

History

On 9 October 1992, the UN Security Council Resolution 781, which imposed a ban on military flights over Bosnia - Herzegovina with the exception of those of the United Nations Protection Force ( UNPROFOR ). For NATO AWACS aircraft were used which were monitored in the operations Maritime Monitor and later Maritime Guard naval activities in the Adriatic Sea since July 1992. The responsibility of surgery was the Allied Forces Southern Europe.

The monitoring of air space began on October 16 by NATO AWACS over the Adriatic Sea and from October 31 through Hungary. The Boeing E-3 Sentry took off from bases in Germany (they are stationed at the Air Base Geilenkirchen ), Italy and Greece. Also, the E -3 were used, which are owned by the Royal Air Force and the French Air Force.

On March 31, 1993, adopted Resolution 816 extended the ban to all undeclared flights, so that Sky Monitor and expired on April 12 began operation Deny Flight.
