Operation Wilfred

Operation Wilfred was a British plan to send, English troops to Norway and to provide the body of water between the Norwegian mainland and its islands with sea mines to prevent German shipments of valuable iron ore from Sweden by neutral Norwegian waters. The plan acknowledged that this action by the German Wehrmacht would not go unanswered and with a German response plan R 4 should enter into force, which provided for the Allied invasion of neutral Norway.

On April 8, 1940, the ambitious plan was put into action a short time later but again stopped when the Germans began with the invasion of Norway and then it came to the first direct confrontation between German and British troops.
