Operculum (brain)
As operculum (Latin for " cover " ) those cortical areas of the frontal ( frontal lobe ), temporal ( temporal lobe ) and the parietal lobe are ( parietal lobe ) denotes the cerebrum, against which the lateral cerebral sulcus ( sulcus lateralis or Sylvian fissure ) and the so-called island cover.
Depending on the membership of the corresponding cerebral lobes, the operculum is further subdivided into:
- Frontal operculum: It is situated between the ramus anterior and ramus of the lateral sulcus and is the seat of the motor speech center.
- Orbital operculum: It is below the anterior branch.
- Frontoparietal operculum: It is located above the lateral sulcus, between the ramus and its rear end.
- Temporal operculum: It is below the lateral sulcus.
