Oplurus
Oplurus cuvieri
Oplurus is a genus of the family of Madagascar iguanas ( Opluridae ). The genus occurs in arid regions and dry forests in the south and west of Madagascar, as well as in isolated areas of the Northwest and the central highlands of the island. The type Oplurus cyclurus found as the only species of the genus on Grande Comore.
Features
Oplurus species look similar and in the lifestyle of heavily African Agama ( Agamidae ). These are medium-sized lizards of up to 40 cm body length. From the genus Chalarodon from the same family, they are distinguished by the large, gewirtelten scales of the tail.

Currently, six types are distinguished:
- Spiny-tailed iguana ( Oplurus cuvieri, Gray, 1831)

- Oplurus fierinensis Gran Didier, 1869
- Oplurus grandidieri Mocquard, 1900
- Vierfleck Madagascar Iguana ( Oplurus quadrimaculatus, Dumeril & Bibron, 1851)
- Oplurus saxicola Gran Didier, 1869
