OPM (Band)

OPM is an American band from the state of California. Their music style is a mix of hip- hop, pop and relaxed reggae. Her best-known single is the debut single " Heaven Is A Halfpipe " from the album " Menace To Sobriety " (in reference to the term " menace to society" ). Both were released by Atlantic Records in September of 2000.

Band History

At the time of release of the album Menace To Sobriety, the band of only three permanent members, namely Matthew Meschery aka Shakey Lo the creation Kid (vocals, keyboards, programming), John Edney aka johne. Necro (vocals ) and Geoff Turney aka Casper ( guitar). For the tour, the band was reinforced by other musicians.

After the Menace To Sobriety tour the hitherto very creative and influential band member Matthew from the band split. In all the songs on the Menace To Sobriety album Matthew worked both in the songwriting as well as (voice ) singer. The exact reasons for the separation there is no public statements. Something seems strange about the fact that after the departure of Matthew this is not even mentioned in the official band biography. Matthew now works at the radio station KQED in San Francisco.

Despite the successful album, the band parted from the record company Atlantic and went in 2004 Suburban Noize Records in contract because they were dissatisfied with Atlantics time management. Band member John E said on this subject: " They'd spent so much to promote the first album, did we thought everything was a go with the second record But They kept sending us back into the studio ... we wrote over 50 songs while waiting. for the label to make a move. We finally got to the point where we did Realized we needed more attention than theywere giving us, so we started working on getting out of our deal. "

The second studio album, Forthemasses ( a pun on the two sets " for the masses " and "for them asses " ), was published in June of 2005. The album was produced by OPM and Steve Gallagher, who has worked with Sugar Ray and Cypress Hill.

In July 2006, the newest album called California Poppy has been published. In addition to the two original band members John and Geoff are currently four other members fixed to: Big B (vocals), Matt ( bass), Jonathan (keyboards) and Carlos (drums).
