History

The city was founded in 1791. Oppenheim was founded in 1808 from Palatine in Montgomery County, even before the emergence of Fulton County.

Geography

The northern part of the city is located in the Adirondack Park. The western part of the city forms the border to Herkimer County and the southern part is bordered by Montgomery County.
