Oppligen

Oppligen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Oppligen is located on 560 m above sea level. M., 8 km north of the city of Thun (air line). The village is located south of Chise, on the eastern edge of the broad Aare valley, at the foot of Oppligenberglis, west of Falkenflue.

The area of ​​3.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Aareniederung between Bern and Thun. The main part of the territory occupied by the alluvial plain, which have the two watercourses Chise and Rotache deposited over time as it enters into the Aare valley. In the middle of this level rises the Oppligenbergli (621 m above sea level. M. ), with its steep, wooded slopes on three sides and the lying about 50 m above the level plateau. To the south of the municipality of soil extends in the vast Hasliwald (south of the Rotache ), in the valley of the Ägelmooses and on the cross bar north of Heimberg, on 625 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Oppligen is achieved. In the north, the area extends on the hill of Deiberges as well as in the Deiholz ​​and in the sermon forest (up to 590 m above sea level. M. ). From the municipality surface 1997 11 % came from settlements, 30 % of forest and shrubs, 58 % to agriculture and slightly less than 1% was unproductive land.

To Oppligen include a residential district on the southern slope of the Oppligenberglis, settlements Buel ( 555 m above sea level. M. ) and Rotache ( 561 m above sea level. History

The first documentary mention of the place was already in 1006 under the name Oponlengis. Later appeared the names Opel Ingen ( 1146 ), Oppel Ingen ( 1234), Oplingen (1250 ) and Opplingen ( 1357 ). The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Oppilo and accordingly is with the people of Oppilo.

On the Oppligenbergli was in the Middle Ages earthwork, from the ramparts are still some visible. Oppligen initially belonged to the Barons of No, which in the 13th century about shrugging off a village to the monastery of Interlaken. In the late 14th century came under Bernese Oppligen supremacy. The high jurisdiction lay with the Landgericht Konolfingen. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ), the village belonged to the district during the Helvetic Steffi castle and from 1803 to Oberamt Konolfingen, which was given the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. Oppligen does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Wichtrach.

Population

With 664 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Oppligen one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Bern. Of the residents 97.1 % are German, 0.5 % French-speaking and 0.5 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Oppligen amounted in 1850 to 504 residents in 1900 to 433 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range 390-450 people. Since 1970 (424 inhabitants) a significant population increase was recorded.

Economy

Oppligen was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the agriculture, dairy farming and livestock have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. At the height of Deiberges a gravel pit is exploited. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly around Thun, partially also in the agglomeration of Bern. Oppligen is considered to be the origin of the Bernese Rose apple.

Traffic

The community is easily accessible via. It lies on the main road from Thun to Konolfingen, near the old main road through the Aare from Thun to Bern. The nearest links to the motorway A6 ( Bern- Thun) is located approximately 2.5 km from the center. Oppligen itself has no connection to the public transport network, but the stations of gravels (main line Bern- Thun) and Brenzikofen ( Burgdorf- Thun) easily accessible.
