OPS-301

The operations and procedure code ( OPS) (2012 until 2005: OPS -301) is the German modification of the International Classification of Procedures in Medicine ( ICPM ) and today the official classification of operational procedures for power control, the power detection and basis for service billing ( for inpatient services after G- DRG) of German hospitals and general practitioners.

The OPS is now provided annually by the German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information ( DIMDI).

For coding, DRGs after encryption by the current version of the ICD -10-GM (current WHO standard, German Modification ) is first necessary. This task is now often carried out by specially trained Kodierfachkräften.

History

Basis for the OPS was the Dutch ICPM -DE, from which the classification key operation pursuant to § 301 SGB V ( OPS -301) was formed. OPS -301 Version 1.0 was published on 14 October 1994 and entered into force on 1 January 1995. Although OPS -301 was originally only a subset of the ICPM, but has been since version 2.0 (effective in 2001) extended by a significant number of national codes. An enormous increase in importance given the OPS classification with the introduction of lump under the DRG system ( Diagnosis Related Groups) in 2004.

With version OPS 2005 it accounted for the previously common suffix " -301 ", since the application of the OPS is no longer limited to § 301 SGB V since this issue but also outpatient surgery in hospital ( § 115b SGB V), and outpatient care through established Doctors ( § 295 SGB V) comprises.
