OpShop

Opshop is a New Zealand alternative rock band from Auckland.

Band History

The result is the band in 2002 from a joint appearance by Jason Kerrison, who was traveling as a solo singer in Auckland, and his long-time friend Tim Skedden. They were joined by drummer Bobby Kennedy and together with guitarist Matt Treacy and bassist Ian Munro, they formed the original cast of Opshop who initially called themselves nor GST.

The following year she took part in a competition organized by the radio station ZM, which she won. It was followed by the release of their debut single Saturated with which they had a moderate success in the New Zealand charts at once. Similarly, the following debut album You Are Here was also placed among the top 20 albums. More Popularity gave them the single No Ordinary Thing, in which they were supported by the successful singer-songwriter Brooke Fraser at the piano. Thereafter, however, left Skedden Munro and the band and the new bassist Clint Harris made the band continued for four.

Your big break had Opshop 2007 with the song Maybe. At 42 weeks on the New Zealand Top 40, it is one of the most successful songs on the charts of their home. The associated album Second Hand Planet rose shortly after a # 3 on the charts, and after the second single One Day also ran very successful, the album early 2008, peaked at number one. It stayed 86 weeks among the best-selling Top 40, making it one of the most successful albums by a New Zealand artist. The album reached 3x platinum status, the singles were certified gold and platinum.

At Christmas 2008 they published together with the singer-songwriter Anika Moa the Single Beside You, which was her third top 10 hit. Until the third album of the band afterwards but went back some time. Until the End of Time was released in the summer of 2010 and went straight to number one this time a. Nevertheless, it could not quite match the success of its predecessor and not the single releases reached the Top 10 of the New Zealand charts.
