Opuwo (formerly also Ohopoho ) is the capital of nordnamibischen Kunene region and county town of the constituency of the same name and with 7900 inhabitants and is the only city in the Kaokoveld in Namibia.

Opuwo is located north of the Joubert Mountains and in the tribal language of the Himba means something like "the end", probably because north of the city 's infrastructure was severely limited. Opuwo is the center of the centuries-old Himba culture. Tradition and modern times meet here very abruptly to one another - with all the problems of such a leap through time: alcohol abuse, crime, neglect, prostitution.
