Oquawka is a village and the administrative seat of Henderson County in the western part of the U.S. state of Illinois on the east bank of the Mississippi River. In 2000, Oquawka had 1,539 inhabitants.
Geography
Oquawka is located at 40 ° 56'20 " north latitude and 90 ° 56'57 " west longitude. The city covers an area of 5 km ², which consists exclusively of land area.

Local Attraction
In Oquawka, there is a memorial stone, reminiscent of a Zirkuselefantenkuh named Norma Jean. This fell on July 17, 1972 a lightning strike victim. The tusker was one of a small circus that toured back in Oquawka. Norma Jean was buried at the impact site and the circus went bankrupt one years after losing his main attraction. Later, the local pharmacist Wade Meloan began that a memorial stone was erected on the site of the grave.
