Þór Akureyri

Þór Akureyri ( Íþróttafélagið Þór ) is an Icelandic sports club from Akureyri.

History

The club was founded on June 6, 1915. In 1929 the club merged with KA Akureyri Akureyri to IBA. This merger, however, was released again in 1974 and Racing Club since under the present name Þór Akureyri. Þór (also: Thór ) is the god of thunder in Germanic and Norse mythology.

Football Division

Þór Akureyri played a total of 15 years in the Pepsideild, the highest Icelandic Football League. Most recently in the 2011 season, in which she descended as though promoted directly again, but qualified as inferior Cup finalist for the UEFA Europa League. There they decided the Erstrundenduell against Bohemians Dublin Ireland with 0:0 and 5:1 for themselves. 2012 then also managed the immediate resurgence.
