Orange County (North Carolina)

Orange County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hillsborough, which was named after the Earl of Hillsborough.

Geography

The County is located just north of the geographic center of North Carolina, is located in the north about 40 miles from Virginia and has an area of ​​1039 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Person County, Durham County, Chatham County, Alamance County and Caswell County.

Orange County is divided into seven townships: Bingham, Cedar Grove, Chapel Hill, Cheeks, Eno, Hillsborough and Little River.

History

Orange County was formed on March 31, 1852 from parts of Bladen County, Granville County and Johnston County. It was named after William V Batavus Prince of Orange, son of Prince William IV of Orange and Anne of England, the daughter of King George II of Great Britain.
