Your first "official" gig the band played on April 20, 1979 at the Victoria Cafe Glasgow School of Art ( Glasgow School of Art). The following year, their first single Falling and Laughing was released as the first panel of the label Postcard Records and was praised by the British music press in the highest tones. Music critic Simon Reynolds writes the popularity of the band in the media and fans to the fact that the British post-punk scene longed after the suicide of Ian Curtis after more cheerful and " life-affirming " tones. In contrast to quite serious and classic punk style ansi ing against the establishment contemporaries like The Marxists Orange Juice cultivated in their texts a more casual and ironic tone that was vocally reinforced by Edwyn Collins ' penchant for crooning. Also the sound of the band sounded quite trendy, determined by melodic guitar playing and bonds with disco and funk. The production of the band got to this time Alex Fergusson.

After a few more very successful singles, the band began recording their first studio album, changed after a few sessions, however, to the major label Polydor. The album was released under the title You Can not Hide Your Love Forever; it peaked in the UK album chart top spot 21

Shortly after the release, the band left Kirk and Daly. From the second album Rip It Up a single of the same in 1983 decoupled, which reached number 8 in the UK charts and is the only top- ten hit of the band. Due to artistic differences, however, left up to Manyika also the new members soon the band, and as Orange Juice was the time of their last record Texas Fever nurmehr a duo.
