Orchestra U. S. A.

The Orchestra was founded in 1962 USA is a by John Lewis and Gunther Schuller jazz big band with strings, the Third Stream aufführte compositions and recorded. In addition to compositions by Lewis and Schuller works by Gary McFarland, Miljenko Prohaska, Hall Overton, Teo Macero, Jimmy Giuffre and Benny Golson were in the repertoire. Furthermore, compositions of classical modernism of Darius Milhaud, Charles Ives, Igor Stravinsky and Paul Hindemith were brought to the hearing. Belonged to the Orchestra, among others Eric Dolphy, Jim Hall, Richard Davis, Phil Woods, Leo Wright and as a guest soloist Benny Golson, Gerry Mulligan and Ornette Coleman. In December 1962, she gave (together with the Modern Jazz Quartet ) first concert in the New York Philharmonic. Disagreements between the musicians and music directors led in 1965 to the dissolution of the orchestra.
