Orchestre Métropolitain

The Orchestre Métropolitain (OM) is a symphony orchestra based in the Canadian city of Montreal. Performances are mainly in the Cultural Place des Arts place, but also in other theaters in the region. It is one of the two resident orchestra of the Opéra de Montréal.

The orchestra was founded in 1981 by graduates of the Montreal Conservatory, in competition with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal already established. It initially was called Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal and took over in 1986 to its present name. In the same year was added a choir that accompanied the musicians ever since. 2005 the first foreign tour held in the United States.

The goal of the orchestra is the promotion of classical music in his youth and the emergence of Canadian artists performing to a large audience. 70 concerts are held annually, attended by 200,000 spectators. In addition matinees at schools and concerts performed in parks and metro stations. Regular guest musicians are invited, such as Diane Dufresne, Denis Gougeon, Michel Longtin and John Rea. So far the orchestra has recorded over two dozen recordings.
