Orchestre Symphonique Kimbanguiste

The Orchestre Symphonique Kimbanguiste ( OSK ) is a beheimatetes in Kinshasa Symphony Orchestra, the only of its kind in Central Africa

The orchestra was established in 1994 by Armand Diangienda, the grandson of Simon Kimbangu, the founder of the independent Christian Kimbanguist into life. The former pilot began the expansion of the orchestra under difficult conditions with only twelve musicians. Some of these instruments had to build their own. However, the orchestra grew with the years to about 200 contributors. It tries to foster, according to the pacifist and cosmopolitan orientation of the religious community in the indigenous population, the understanding and acceptance of European art music. A German documentary by Martin Baer and Claus wiping man entitled Kinshasa Symphony in 2010 aroused international interest for this unusual cultural initiative.
