The Orchidoideae are a subfamily of orchids ( Orchidaceae). It mainly includes those orchids with a single fertile anther which is erect and no leaves formed below the inflorescence. In addition to these plants, the former subfamily of Spiranthoideae included recently due to DNA testing as Tribe Cranichideae now. All kinds of Orchidoideae therefore now have in common:

  • The ( ground-level ) habitat,
  • Sektile pollen,
  • And erect anthers.
