Order and disorder (physics)

As a long-range order is called the regular and continuous endless ( into the distance ) assembly of molecules or atoms in a crystalline solid, especially in intermetallic phases.

Solids without long-range order is referred to as amorphous solids or glass. You only have a short-range order, as well as liquids.

The structure of real crystals differs at many points from a perfect long-range order. Real crystals - or also called crystallites - that contain a large number of crystal defects, without losing the character of the long-range order.
