Order of Merit for Labour

The work of Merit (Italian Ordine al Merito del Lavoro ) is introduced by the Kingdom of Italy award, which is awarded today by the President of the Italian Republic.

It is dedicated to those Italian citizens who have acquired industry, agriculture, trade, tourism, services, crafts, credit and insurance outstanding services in the areas, especially in regard to social aspects. A carrier of the Order shall be entitled to the title of Knights of Labor, Cavaliere del Lavoro Italian to lead.

Appearance of the Order

The order consists of a green glazed golden cross in the middle of a round shield is attached; it shows on one side the coat of arms of the Republic of Italy, on the other side the inscription al merito del lavoro - 1901 ( the merit of the work - 1901). Is carried the cross on the left side of the chest, attached to a green-red- green striped ribbon.

History

In 1901, decreed king Victor Emmanuel III. the creation of a Chivalric agricultural, industrial and commercial Merit ( Ordine al Merito Cavalleresco Agrario, Industriale e Commerciale ). This introduction was based on a proposal by the then Prime Minister and Minister ( ad interim) for agriculture, industry and trade Giuseppe Zanardelli. 1921 was renamed the Award of Merit in Work ( Ordine al merito del lavoro ).

A significant restriction, both in As for the number of award winners and in terms of the required services, it was decided in 1923. In 1934, a further reduction of the annual New Knights, their number was set at 25.

Despite the abolition of the monarchy, the House of Representatives and the Senate in 1952 decided to retain the Order, as in a - just redound founded on labor Republic work to honor and chivalrous reputation - according to Article 1 of the Constitution. In 1986 finally took place the last revision date of the award Prozederes: There the criterion of a spotless civilized and social life were newly added, limited the discretion of the proposing minister and the award of non- Italian citizen possible.

Selection of Auszuzeichnenden

Each year the Minister for Economic Growth in cooperation with the Ministers for Agriculture, Forestry and appearance a list of candidates in the five areas ( a) agriculture, (b) industry, ( c ) trade, tourism and services, ( d ) Craft and (e) credit and insurance. The key requirement for a possible award are extraordinary contribution to the nation. Then there will be consultations with the Consiglio del Lavoro dell'Ordine al Merito ( advice of the occupational Merit ) composed of representatives of various ministries, interest groups and the Federazione Nazionale dei Cavalieri del Lavoro (National Federation of the Knights of Labor ). After this council has voted on the proposals, the Minister chooses to economic growth from those candidates whom it proposes to award the President of the Republic.

In Act No. 194 of 1986 the following criteria will be called, that a candidate should meet:

  • An impeccably mannered and social life,
  • At least twenty years of continuous activity in a position of responsibility,
  • Accomplishment of all fiscal, welfare and social responsibilities for the benefit of the workers,
  • An absence of any damaging for Italy: economic and commercial activity.

The Knights of Labor

Between 1901 and 2011 a total of 2697 Knights of Labor were appointed. Every year on Republic Day, 2 June, added 25 new. Many Knights are organized in the Federazione Nazionale dei Cavalieri del Lavoro.

The restrictive award of the Order according to exclusive is the circle of excellence. These include personalities such as Giovanni Agnelli (1977 ), Silvio Berlusconi ( 1977-2014 ), which owes its nickname to the Order Cavaliere, Enzo Ferrari ( 1952), Guglielmo Marconi ( 1902) and Valentino (1996).
