Order of Prince Danilo I

The Order of Danilo I. for independence was changed from Prince Danilo I of Montenegro in 1853 from an existing and in 1837 donated medal. The Order was established for participants in the struggle for independence against the Turks. From about 1860 other people have been honored with it. This change was related to the government takeover together by Prince Nicholas. The order was also " Tschernagorischer Independence Order" and called " Danilo I, for the independence of the black mountains ".

Order of classes

The Order had initially only one class, which was then extended to three (four) classes.

  • Grand Cross
  • Commander
  • Knight

Order decoration

For all classes, the order decoration is different.

The medal decoration consists of a silver cross, which is rounded on the outer sides. The cross arms are black enamel and center there is a round gold medallion succinct. On the red enameled obverse side, in golden letters in Serbian and " Danilo I, Prince of Montenegro ". The similarly shaped back contains the religious motto " For the independence of the Black Mountains 1852/1853 ".

The knights kept the 1853 imported form. The cross of the commanders is a golden as before described, only a broad gold aggregated edge was surrounded by white enamel. The lower arm of the cross is longer and stretched the award visually.

The decoration for large cruiser is a rounded golden cross with arms of equal length, and this center is blue enamel. Limited by a golden edge of the red-white edge is bordered. The red enameled central shield is surrounded by a wide blue and a narrower white frost. Inside and outside is a golden line. In the center medallion on Serbian initials DI ( Danilo I. ) and above the crown prince. In blue enamelled circlet is the inscription " For the independence of the Black Mountains ".

The entire order decoration is attached to the golden crown prince with support ring that hovered over everything.

Ribbon and carrying method

The ribbon was a white, each with a red stripe on each side. Great cruiser laid the ribbon over the right shoulder to the left hip side as a sash. Commanders wore a neck orders and knights on the left chest.

To order decoration belonged to large cruisers, a breast star to the left side. The Order star has 16 beam having alternately of eight brill -guaranteed in silver and eight simple in silver. In the star center is the cross of the Order.
